Coats for Kids

For the last few years we have joined the Salvation Army and WTHR’s Bob Gregory’s Coats for Kids.    The event collects new or gently used coats to give away to families that can benefit from them.  The event requires a few hundred volunteers to help fit coats on children. The kids are always so excited and grateful for the gift of warmth as the season heads into the winter.

Last year one of our volunteers attended the event for the first time.  After running out of hats and gloves for the kids in the first hour, she was convicted to come home from the event and try to collect, and make as many hats and gloves as she could before next year’s event.  A goal was set at 1000 hats.   The goal was met by Sping and now we are trying to get as many hats as possible to deliver to the drop off in October.  We have received donations of felt, fleece, yarn, and cash to help make or purchase hats.

This year’s coat distribution is October 20th, 2012.

Register here if you would like to volunteer.
